Kickstarter's Zine Quest was a pretty cool event in retrospect. It was crazy to have so much content to pick from (I could not buy them all, sadly). I had some background involvement as a co-creator (Donn Stroud launched The Lesser Key to the Celestial Legion at the same time) and watching our KS and others come to fruition was awesome.
One of the wildest things to come out of Zine Quest was Terror of the Stratosfiend, the bizarre brain child of Sean Richer. For reasons I still do not fully understand, Sean really liked Fae Hard. He gave it a shout out in during the KS and he thought his twisted, gonzo, space horror setting would be a perfect thing to mix with The Red King, Alboran's, Die Hard inspired adventure. To which I said, "Sounds like fun. Let's do a mash up."
A half year later and Sean hits up on the Twitter about ideas for his upcoming KS for issue #2 of Terror of the Stratosfiend. One thing leads to another and instead of re-skinning Fae Hard, we are talking about an all new joint -- Fae Harder using Die Hard 2 as the setting. And it might be a stretch goal adventure. Now many do not know this, but I had never watched Die Hard until I had to write the first adventure. The same holds true for Die Hard 2. Yep, I hadn't watched that either.
Turns out Die Hard 2 is a pretty interesting fit for Terror of the Stratosfiend. There's a lot of airplanes, it being set in an airport and all. There is also a lot of electronics as sub plot points (the listening device, the air traffic control system takeover, the second array tower as an ambush, scrambled communications for the bad guys, etc. etc). The Terror of the Stratosfiend Kickstarter also produced a 1.5 volume and what is in that bad boy but a new class called a Comm-Artist. Kismet!
So I'm not going to give too much more away. Other than it's set in space. And there's space ships. And there's Terrors of the Stratosfiends (and faeries) to deal with. And you can come play-test it at U-Con in Ypsilanti, MI November 22-24 if the suspense is killing you.
